I had the privilege of participating in Amref Health Africa’s Global Mobility Program, an initiative that provides staff with opportunities to learn, share expertise, and expand their professional horizons. During my assignment at HQ in Nairobi, I gained invaluable insights into best HR practices, deepened my understanding of global HR operations, and refined my problem-solving and adaptability skills. This experience challenged me to adopt a global perspective, embrace growth opportunities, and approach challenges with a solution-oriented mindset. It also enhanced my ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and strengthened my contribution to Amref’s strategic goals. I am immensely grateful for this transformative experience, which has enriched my professional growth and inspired me to aim higher as I continue to support our vision of creating lasting health change across Africa.

The Oxford Women Leadership Programme has been immensely valuable in helping me identify my natural, potential, and fragile strengths that can shape my journey as a leader. It has significantly boosted my confidence in overcoming barriers and addressing resistance to change. The experience provided an incredible learning opportunity about how to effectively respond to challenges, acknowledging that such obstacles are inevitable in any leadership role. I learned to navigate pivotal moments, such as anticipating organizational growth, emphasizing the importance of preparation and planning to prevent future redundancy in teams, which can lead to layoffs and diminish trust. I commend the organizers of this program and sincerely appreciate Amref for providing me with the opportunity to participate in such an incredible and transformational leadership experience.

I have significantly enhanced my public speaking and communication skills through my involvement with Toastmasters. This experience has improved my ability to present spontaneously and effectively organize my thoughts, which is essential for both casual conversations and formal presentations. Additionally, I have developed strong networking abilities, allowing me to connect with others more easily across various contexts. The supportive feedback from fellow members has been invaluable in refining my skills and building my confidence in delivering coherent messages

I am grateful to AMREF HR for the opportunity to join Toastmasters, which has been instrumental in my professional and personal growth as a Communications Officer. Over the past six months, I’ve embraced roles like Toastmaster of the Day (TMOD) and Topics Master, sharpening my skills in managing engaging discussions and crafting impactful stories. Since joining Toastmasters, I’ve confidently taken on responsibilities such as hosting a youth podcast and moderating online and in-person dialogues. These experiences have enhanced my clarity, storytelling, and ability to foster meaningful conversations. The supportive feedback culture has elevated my performance at work, enabling me to approach challenges with confidence and structure. This journey has been transformative, and I appreciate HR’s commitment to empowering employees through such opportunities.

Since I join Amref Health Africa, I have seen a tremendous improvement in improving staff’s capacity through different professional growth and development initiatives; coaching and mentorship, essential online training platforms and need based capacity building training opportunities. I have also benefited from it as an employee and as a leader in various capacity building and training platforms. I am still benefiting from these capacity building platforms. I have been enrolled and successfully completed the first and second round leadership training on the 6 critical practices of effective leadership and I have seen aspiring change and improvement in my team leadership and program implementation. I have also taken critical and essential trainings through the LinkedIn and Coursera e-learning platforms.

Amref offers excellent opportunities for professional growth through various training programs, workshops, and mentorship initiatives. Employees have access to continuous learning resources and are encouraged to develop their skills, advance in their careers, and take on new challenges. Amref fosters a culture of personal and professional development, helping staff reach their full potential while contributing to its global health mission. From the Amref Leadership Academy, one that has been my go to, is LinkedIn Learning which gives me access to skills that aims at advancing my career plus it easy to access and learn within a shortest period.

Amref has been spot-on and quite engaging when it comes to improving the quality, performance and promoting career growth of staff. There have been several orientation sessions held by HQ. Additionally, Amref has partnered with several training online platforms such as LinkedIn, Harvard University leadership program, and the Amref Leadership Academy. The purposive talent calibration for staff based on their progressive performance is an incredibly important pathway for career growth in Amref. It also recognizes and captures unique talents that staff possess for Amref to leverage for enhanced overall program performance and personal growth.

The professional growth and development opportunities at Amref have been instrumental in shaping my career. Through various capacity-building programs, mentorship, hands-on experience, and the Leadership Academy, I have honed my skills in financial management, reporting, and compliance. The organization invests in training its staff, providing platforms for career advancement and skill enhancement. In early 2025, I was honored to win the Advance Master’s in International development for young professionals.
